Neuschwanstein Castle
Similar to Ludwig II, I've been a bit obsessed with castles much of my life. It is my earnest desire to build a wizard's tower somewhere in the middle of nowhere as a personal retreat. Going to Neuschwanstein Castle has been a lifelong dream, and having seen the inside of the place, it seems that Ludwig II and I shared a bit of the same sort of crazy... except he had the riches to carry out much of it.
There's a palace on the way up to the castle called Schloss Hohenschwnagau that would be impressive enough to bring visitors from afar.
The walk up was beautiful... and steep. Reminded me of Red Rocks back in Colorado. It's a bit of a hike up some amazing natural views and when you get to the top, it's completely worth every damn step.
You aren't allowed to take pictures once inside (looking at you super-bro from North Carolina), but I may update this post with some professional shots from the internet. The highlight, for me, of the tour inside the castle was the concert hall. A beautiful stage, ornately decorated room, grand acoustics... and it was never used in Ludwig's lifetime. Our tour guide, Jax, said that they host a concert in there once a year now. As soon as I check an item off the bucket list, I go and add one on.
